I take biology, chemistry, maths and physics at a-level and am interested in a degree in biomedical engineering. Looking through the Cambridge prospectus it says that if I'm applying through the engineering route 'further maths is strongly encouraged and required by some colleges'. Will not taking further maths disadvantage my application ?

It is what it is. About a third of Cambridge engineers don't have FM, so no it's not required.
