Currently I am a single mum who is self employed so am on a low income. My eldest son has the full grant amount and a top up bursery as I cannot afford to help him out. I am applying to be a career for a teenager on assisted living which is £10,000 tax free. Would this be counted towards my income when I fill my earnings in for this years loan application as my son may loose his loan amount and bursery?

    Hi Angelaslw,

Carers allowance is included in the household income when assessing your sons student finance so you would be required to provide this income.

This could have and effect on the amount your son is awarded if it takes the income over the threshold, which is £25000.

    I hope this information helps.

    Kind regards,

    John.
