I am from Germany and I moved to the UK about 2 years ago. I would like to take A Levels in the UK now (distance course from home), but I'm confused whether or not I have to take some AS Levels before I start the A levels. I have my GCSE's and also I did an apprenticeship in Germany. Now I'm not sure if I also have to take AS Levels before applying to A levels. Thank you!

AS-levels are being phased out with the new linear system. Most students start their A-levels straight after GCSEs and take the exams after two years. There is no need to take any AS-level exams.

AS Levels and A Levels are combined. You usually learn the first year of A-Level content in year 12 (which is classed as AS) and then you learn the second year (classed as A-Levels).
So if you think you are able to do two years of work in one year, then you should be able to do it - but contact the school first just to double check

A Level qualifications include the AS exams so you would have to do both to get the qualification

Some centres do the AS exams in year 1 of the course and A2 exams in year 2 whereas some others do all the exams in the second year

If you took your AS exams the same year as your A2 you’d then have to learn 2 years of work in one year and I doubt many places do this

In general you have to take 2 years to obtain A Level qualifications - hope this helps!
