You definitely can grow muscles doing calisthenics (body weight exercises) If crunches are too easy try hanging of a bar with tucked legs and do some crunches, then there are pull-ups, muscle ups, front and back lever, one arm pull ups. If you can do human flag and a planch , then you are already ripped.
