Q.17

A is the point (2,-5)
B is the point (4,-9)

(a) Show that the gradient of the straight line passing through A and B is -2;

(b) C is the point (-301, 601)
Does C lie on the straight line passing through A and B?

a) Gradient = Change in y divided by change in x
-5 to -9 is -4
2 to 4 is +2
b) C= (-301, 601), and A= (2, -5)
Change in y=606, change in x=-303
606/-303=-2, so yes it is on the straight line passing A and B because it has the same gradient.
