    Hi,

Can someone explain part (c) of this question please? I watched a video tutorial of the solution, but am unsure why the thrust of the tow bar of 100N acts towards the car and trailer and not towards the middle of the tow bar? My thinking is that if the car is braking the thrust would act towards the middle of the tow bar?

    Thanks

There is no change to the tension nor the way it behaves if the car suddenly begins to brake.
Tension acts throughout the tow bar (and any other object with tension) so there is nothing in the middle to prevent it from doing so.
