I’m the President of a Psychology Society and have had problems with membership this year.

Since becoming President, the membership of the society has significantly improved, however we only have a few members coming to each social.

We do varied events such as quizzes, movie nights, walks, talks from professionals and we have an upcoming talent show and photography competition.

How can we improve membership? We have a very limited budget, but really want the society to be seen as fun, rather than purely academic.

    Thank you!

These things are always difficult. A lot of it is about building a sense of community and getting people to come through word of mouth. How are you advertising these things? Maybe plan smaller events and then expand based on demand. Some events will always be more popular than others.

Hiya, we advertised initially at a Freshers Fayre, and since have advertised our events through emails, Facebook, Twitter, instagram, noticeboards and a TV screen at uni for our large events...

Ok so all fairly impersonal and things that can be easily ignored as there is so much info out there. Maybe get your members to advertise it to people they know, shout out in lectures, have open meetings that everyone is invited to and at actual events.
