Hallo! I have got an interview at UWS (Hamilton campus) for BSc Mental Health Nursing and i was reading the letter attaching to the email informing me that i got interview. It mentioned that the students may have part time jobs but the placements should always be taken as priority over their jobs and they should fit their jobs around the placements not the other way around. It got me worried as I have children and I will need to arrange childcare for them. I assumed that if I struggle to get childcare, I could ask to adjust the placements like I did in previous courses (Social Care/Dip Education and Social Service). Am i being naive? It would be good to hear from other parents who successfully managed to do the course and juggle the kids' cares.

Hi, I’m an adult nursing student, I don’t have children myself but at my uni it’s emphasised that we need to do early, lates, long days, nights & weekends while on placement and that any students with children need to organise themselves to be able to meet the days & hours of the placement.
Depending on the placement & the mentor it may be possible to change days or hours or request the odd day off or change of shift. But that may not always be possible.
You may be able to request your rota is given asap or ask for at least 4 weeks of it in advance to help you organise childcare, however this may not be possible at every placement.
Don’t be put off though, as I’ve met many 2nd & 3rd year students with children that get by so it is possible, it might just need some more organisation and calling in some favours.
    Good luck with your interview.
