I know this is a very closed question but i am looking to apply to pates grammar school sixth form their entry requirement is 57 points from the top 8 predicted gcse's with each grade equals the points for example grade 8 is 8 points and grade 9 is 9 points. I have added up my best 8 and i have 64.5, will i get in. I know they oversubscribe a lot.

I'm applying too. They said at the meeting that they take approximately 120 external students. That's alot more than most of the surrounding schools.

Just aim for the highest grades you can. 64.5 is pretty high so I don't see why you wouldn't get in. Have you been called in for a meeting yet?

    Good luck!

Hi Sophie, names Ore btw Esther’s just my middle name, may ask what you have do so far ? Do u make mindmaps, flashcards , posters etc...? I made flashcards and found that the process of making them actually Helped me learn a lot of the content. Firstly try to structure ur revision a little. Tick off topics or confident about you have done maybe? Try doing past papers u may find that a lot of this content u don’t know u actually do know. Doing past papers will make u aware of topics ur weak and you can try to prioritise those. However don’t do them all now and try to pave urself. If ur doing topics like geography where they ask you those longer case Study questions chances are the case studies they asked last year won’t come up so don’t bother learning them as this may save you some time.

You still got plenty of time so try now to stress😉
What’s ur offer do pates btw?

Hi ore i have made all my notes and i am just in the process of learning them and doing practices questions, which just seems to be taking a long time.... which is why I was just a bit stressed out because i was not sure if i am behind everyone else.
My offer to pates was just to get 57 points from my top 8 GCSE subjects which I think is the same for everyone this means you add up the number grades that u achieve, which should be 57 or higher.
What a levels have you taken?
I have opted for all sciences and would like to do medicine x

Hiya Sophie Dw chances are u aren’t behind it’s surprising how many people i know in pates who left revision last minute. What u r doing sounds good just keep it up! 😊 I did maths, further maths, biology and chemistry in year 12 and dropped f/maths in year 13. I’m hopeful going to go to Imperial *fingers crossed* to study medicine this year. Good luck x

Hi Sophie Imperial don’t care too much about GCSEs tbh. To get an interview you need to have a BMAT score which is above you their cut off(on their website), be predicted at least AAA and have a decent Personal statement (they don’t score it or anything). It’s really good bc as long ur BMAT scores above their cut off they don’t care. At interview stage it’s a clean slate. Someone who just scrapped a BMAT score above the cut wouldn’t preferred any less than Someone who go 6s in S1 and S2 ygm. I got 4.4 5.2 3A which wasn’t amazing but was above their cut off so I was fine. Ur GCSEs sound really good 😊 Good lunch with ur future application!

    Hi

What do you think of the maths/FM at Pates?
Well...throughout the year it was fine. But when exams came I just couldn’t do any questions 😂 no matter how many practice papers I did or how much I revised I never did amazing well in FP1 and D1. But that’s just me personally. I managed to come out with a B in f/maths AS and averaged 91% UMS in Normal maths AS. So normal maths was fine whilst f/maths was okay but wasn’t my strong suit. So happy when I dropped it in year 13.
