Hi guys, applying to Leeds Beckett, University of Bradford and Huddersfield for MA Social Work. I am a Working with Children, Young People and Families Graduate. I have taken this year out after graduating in 2017 to get some relevant work experience.

I volunteer in 3 settings- A people referral unit with disengaged children who don't fit into mainstream school for various reasons. The children I have met here have very complex needs and have had very difficult starts to their lives. I also volunteer as a mental health group facilitator and volunteer in a befriending role with refugees and asylum seekers.

I was wondering if there is any advice you guys can give me regarding the written interview and group discussion on the interview days. I also think I am doing too much in terms of my preparing for the individual interview. Is there anything in particular I should keep my focus on?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi HamzBarcaLAD

It is good to hear you are considering studying with us for your MA.

It sounds like you have some very good experience. I know you are hoping to hear from any current students or other applicants, so you could try posting in our forum here:

    https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=230

For your interview, if you do apply, you will be sent detailed information in advance. It sounds like you have some very good experience, think about how you can share this at the interview. Make sure your preparation covers all the elements, but remember, the interview is also an opportunity to ask the University questions too.

Have you had chance to visit a Postgraduate Study Fair? This is also a great chance to meet academics and get answers to questions you may have. We have one on Tuesday 6 March from 3pm until 6pm.

Good luck with your application – we are here to help if you need any more information!
