Hi. I’ve been accepted for a masters programme but can’t finance it. I took out a student loan in 1994 to finance another course and did not pay it because I was temping for years and moving around. No correspondence ever received from SLC though I did defer a few times. Question is will the unpaid loan debar me from applying for postgraduate loan? I am 51 next Tuesday.

    Hi Susan,

Just need to ask you a few questions to check your eligibility.

What College/University are you going to?
    What course are you doing?
How long will the course last?
    When will the course start?
What course did you previously study?

    Thanks

    Catherine

Hi Catherine. The course I want to do is a masters in psychology at Derby Online university. The course will take 2-3 years part time. Previously did PGCe at Kings 1994.

    Hi Susancat,

As long as you do not already hold a Masters qualification, meet the residency requirements and are not behind with any previous loan repayments where you were eligible to repay, you can be confident that you will be able to apply for a Postgraduate Loan PGL.

If you did not earn over the threshold and not eligible to make any repayments then you are eligible.

    Thanks Rona
