I had my offer from cardiff back in october. today i went for the offer-holder visit day where they took each applicant out individually for informal interviews. The prof. went through my personal statement and asked a lot of technical questions, definitely not just ''a chat to get to know you'' lmaoo. i had to recall my personal statement on the spot, so some pauses and delays made it felt like a bumpy convo. i had also forgot some m1 maths stuff (did it last yr) he had asked me and said i was unsure. what is the point of informal interviews really cos i already got their offer?

Often these kind of interviews are used to give the university some sort of idea of the candidates so that in the eventuality you didn't make the offer grades they could fall back on the interview to see if they'd still let you in.

No it's not wasted. It's not a make it or break it factor, and as you say they've already offered you a place. It's just something they fall back on, but it doesn't carry that much significance. Don't worry about how it went though, everyone pauses/forgets stuff in interviews due to the pressure.
