# Sample space question watch

1. A fair dice is thrown four times and the number of times it falls with a 6 on the top,Y, is noted. Write a sample space of Y.

If the sample space shows all the possible values you can roll, would it not be [1,2,3,4,5,6]? The answer in the book is [0,1,2,3,4].

The sample space is represents all the possible values that a random variable, Y, can take.

So, since Y denotes the number of times a certain number shows up throughout four throws, it cannot have e.g. 5 because there is no way you can get a six rolled 5 times with four rolls!

Hence the sample space is
