    Peaked at £45k. Left my job after that despite potentially earning 80k within the next 2 years. Job satisfaction and personal happiness is something no amount of money will buy. Maybe going forward i'll reach that again but probably only in late 40s. Ah well.

    I was just talking to a friend about this yesterday, think I settled on being disappointed if I wasn't making £500k or so by the end of my career. It's not necessarily that I have a desire to do much with such money, more a reflection of my ambitions and what I want to achieve (which does tend to go hand in hand with increased earnings).

    I realise that sounds a little arrogant, but I've always felt I could achieve a lot, and I'd rather feel that way than the alternative.

    How much do you think doctors earn lol?! Very very few uk doctors will ever reach £200k, let alone 500!
