Just remind me which party legalised gay marriage...
A token gesture to appease the liberal democrats who they were in government with. You can bet if they had been ruling alone it would never have happened.Gay marriage was largely after the battle was won anyway.Anything significant like section 28 or lowering the age of consent for gay youth was opposed. They are just like the republicans in America who are largely homophobic. The republicans want to pass a religious freedom bill. Its still discrimination even if you hide behind religious beliefs.

Ahh of course. Anything good the coalition did was down to the Lib Dems, anything bad the Tories...

Without the support of Labour and the Lib Dems the Bill wouldn't have passed.. your whole argument has no factual basis. The majority of Conservative MP's (136) voted against the Bill, without the support of Labour and the Lib Dems the Bill would not have passed and gay marriage would not have been legal. Also, the Bill was put forward by a Lib Dem MP.. What's your argument again?

This is true, but it is unfair to suggest that Cameron's influence at the top of the party, to make the Tory party much more likeable and engaging outside of their standard demographic (which worked), wasn't part of how that Bill came before parliament.

Everyone's entitled to their opinions. Just because you don't agree with it, does not make it hate speech.

There are many reasons why people would be against same sex marriage, whether it is down to cultural, or religious reasons.

Religious reasons are still homophobia. In fact its probably the main source of homophobia.Cultural or religious beliefs are no excuse. And they shouldn't get a free pass.

It was bound to be a trash article considering it was in the daily mail.

Did I say that? Britain is one of the best places to be gay in the world but it's definitely no thanks to the conservative values espoused by newspapers like the mail. All the progress we have made on gay rights has been opposed every step of the way by tories.
But it the Tories who legalised gay marriage though, wasn't it?

It's not homophobia if someone says they disagree with same-sex parenting or same-sex marriage due to religious, cultural or political reasons. It would be homophobia if they directed hate at those that identify as LGBTQ+.

How is it not? You are saying that gay people are inferior parents or have inferior relationships compared to straight people. And you are saying that based on nothing but your beliefs and not based on any evidence. You are making a negative judgement on someone based on nothing but their sexuality.Which is a textbook definition of homophobia.
Dressing it up by saying some diety commanded it 2000 years ago doesn't excuse it.Its still homophobia because in reality those rules were made by men not God.

Interestingly the largest demographic of buyer and readers of the DM, by quite some margin, are women.
