For my A level English at the moment, we're reading Heart of Darkness alongside Passage to India and in the exam we need to compare them. My English teacher has asked us to keep a comparison journal to help us when we're revising for our exams but I have no idea how to lay it out and I was hoping someone would have some tips/advice? I don't know whether to group it by themes/techniques or to analyse them separately and then compare my analysis etc. Thank you!

Try and decide a common format.

    It will normally be about

    Themes.
Characters as in a novel. hero, women etc.
    Authors style.

Once you have read both books and made notes, then you can start to compare them with each other.

I would also het the Mr Bruff A level English lit book as that has information on comparative essays as well as there being other videos on youtube.

If the only way the exam works is by a comparison essay rather than individual essays on these books, then move into comparison notes quickly. If you can be asked questions about books individually then make separate notes until you are ready to do a comparison set.
