# question watch

1. how do I work this out? in maths I always struggle the most with word problems I never know what operation to use or what to start with what could I use to improve and learn how to calculate worded maths problems like this one?

2. It would be new reading-old reading to find the units and then you'd times the answer by 0.12 to find what she has to pay in pounds
3. 3546 - 3298 = 248 units

248 units multiplied by 0.12 (12p) = 29.76 pence

248 units multiplied by 0.12 (12p) = 29.76 pence
how do you actually know and understand what to do first

Because the question is essentially asking you to find out how much units of electricity she has used since the last reading (248)

Then you just need to work out how much that costs which is the (248 multiplied by 0.12p)

The question is asking you the cost of the electricity that she's used.
So they give you the old and new reading. So if you assume that the old reading is from a month ago and the new reading is today, the difference between them is the total electricity used.
Then they give you the cost per unit, so you multiply it by the units used.

So:

Units used x cost per unit = cost of the electricity used.
