So for AS OCR Computing I was attempting to answer the following question

Now when I looked at the mark scheme below I was a little confused because essay exam questions are definitely not my strongest.
In order to hit the full marks on the question can I just write things which are AO2 and AO3 stuff? Or do I also have to write AO1 stuff?

Mark Band 3 states that you need to "demonstrate a thorough knowledge", so I can't really imagine you could satisfy the examiner without being able to remember/explain exactly what you are allowed and are not allowed to do by law.

Also, from a common-sense point of view, the whole point of teaching these laws is pretty much just to make sure that you do indeed understand exactly what you are and aren't allowed to do by law

So I take it that you have to state your knowledge then apply that knowledge to the scenario?

Yes I would think so - that's pretty much the way I read the criteria for Mark Band 3. Also, it would be a bit weird for them to include some example text in the mark scheme that isn't needed for the marks
