Msc International Student Watch
I've just been accepted to the Msc Occupational Therapy programme at Essex and I'm from the United States. Where do graduate students usually stay? On or off campus? Having trouble on deciding which housing I should do since I don't know the area very well.
I am a third year student at the University of Essex and I have lots of friends who are pursuing their postgraduate study here. All full-time postgraduates students are entitled to accommodation on campus and I would highly suggest staying on campus, as you have said, you're not familiar with the Colchester town, the oldest recorded town in the UK.
My friends are staying in Meadows and Quays accommodations, where they only share the flat with postgraduate students, which is very fortunate, as you could be lucky enough to get to know people from your course, or at least, share the same experience as a postgraduate student here.
Furthermore, as the accommodation is at a close proximity to the campus itself (about 10 minutes walk) it is more than convenient to be able to participate at all networking events on campus, rather than commuting. I would highly suggest to apply to accommodation on campus because it is easier to meet new people and maximise the student experience, an aspect which could not be possible if staying in a private accommodation.
