If I sent an email to a group of friends to sell an item, would this be an offer or invitation to treat? In the email, I clearly mark the price and also add 'thereabout' to it. I also state that its based on a first in and first served basis.

    Probably invitation to treat.

Thereabout demonstrates a lack of finality. First in and first served refers to consideration; i.e. the offers first tendered will be first considered. That phrase does not, on the ordinary meaning of the words, imply anything final about the "thereabout" price.
