So I’ve just been offered a Level 2 apprenticeship as a pharmacy assistant with the NHS in a hospital which will last for 15 months. I’m 4 months pregnant and in terms of my rights I’m unsure what they are as an apprentice. I’m planning on taking maternity leave as late as possible and would coming back to finish my course after maternity leave be possible? Also when would it be the right time to tell my employer and would I be fired as a result? Thanks

They couldn't fire you but you d have to tell them soon as you won't be able to do certain things because they would be risky like touching cytotoxic drugs and some heavy lifting. It would depend on the course provider and the employer whether you can take a break or not. I think your legal rights are the same as any other job.

    Hi there,

There is no official guidance on this, so I am afraid I can't give you a straight up 'yes' or 'no' answer. I would suggest researching the website or FAQ's where you completed your application to see if there is any guidance available.

There are some conflicting sites confirming you can, and then some confirming you can't, here is the link to a 'help site' I have found:
    https://www.workingfamilies.org.uk/a...ternity-leave/

You could try contacting our helpline, they may have some more guidance available to help you.

    [email protected] .gov.uk
    Telephone: 0800 015 0400
    8am to 10pm, 7 days a week

    Hope this helps
