Are you thinking Lincoln/Brasenose here, or is this just a standard sort of occurance?

the turl street dash is between exeter and jesus- lincoln are far too insular to get involved in that argument.

Have never heard the story about Teddy Hall getting beer from New before and I've been going there for over 3 years now...

The only 'tradition' at Teddy Hall which springs to mind is to do with a former student, Oronhyatekha (he has a Wikipedia article if you're interested) who was the first native American to study in Oxford. Every year the boys get dressed up as Indians and get drunk and do lots of chanting and drum banging. It's quite amusing to watch, if rather politically incorrect. There are various rumours about Oronhyatekha's profligate ways in Oxford, but I suspect this is mainly urban legend.

As far as the whole thing about Lincoln students throwing hot pennies on ascension day, I think that's part of the larger beating of the bounds tradition which takes place. I can't remember the exact details, except that the route from the university church concludes with cake in All SOuls, which in my view is a reason in its own right to go. It's on my list of things to do before I leave Oxford. I wish ascension day wasn't so close to Finals...
Then there's the May Day tradition of having all the Morris dancers come up to the raised quad and dance for us... Not sure if we're still going to have a raised quad when they've finished building up there, though.

A razed quad, more like.

The Turl Street Bicycle Race.

Turl Street Colleges compete against each other in a lap from the junction of Turl St./High St., Queen's Lane, New College Lane, Catte Street, Broad Street, and back to the end of Turl St. again.

All after consuming 10 pints of beer.

This is called the Turl Street Dash and it's just selected Jesus guys who do it
Well St Peter's have the 10-balling, 7-balling rule which is where if you get defeated in table football or pool by losing 10 or 7 balls in a row, you must squawp around the quad with your trousers around your ankles.
That's a pretty universal rule of pool among young men everywhere.

And is called trousering.

And it's 6 balls at Balliol if there's a ginger in the room...

As others have pointed out the Turl Street Dash was originally Exeter and Jesus but since 2005 I think maybe 2004 Exeter haven't showed up so now it's just Jesus

When is it meant to be held?
That's odd, because all that yelling in Turl Street a few weeks back seemed to have two sides to it.
Reply 32
Nope it was just us - Exeter didn't even open the doors.
It's slightly variable but basically Friday of 3rd week of Hilary +/- 1 week.

Lame, I missed it. We could have got a team out, no problem. Remind me next year.

Hehe you realise it's not a race in the usual sense right? I can't remember if it's 9 pints in the union and 1 in college to make 10 or 10 in the union and then 1... And you're meant to steal the bike you ride :p:
