So basically, a couple of my friends and I have been planning on going out to see a movie at the cinema for weeks now and a date has finally been decided. The plan is to go on Saturday afternoon as part of a sort of belated birthday celebration for one of the friends.

This probably sounds terrible, but... I really just don’t want to go. I haven’t fallen out with my friends or anything but I have mountains of homework (specifically assignments) to do this weekend, I’ve been struggling through the week with a terrible cold and constant migraines, and I’m honestly just exhausted.

I need an excuse to get out of going that won’t anger or upset my friends... Preferably something I can tell them tonight or tomorrow BEFORE they go out and book the tickets.

why do you feel you have to come up with an excuse? Why not just tell them what you have here?

You’ve literally just typed what you should tell your friends. Don’t be scared of telling the truth.

If they’re your friends, they should understand - right?

Just be honest with them and maybe say you'll go the cinema when you have less/no homework to do.
