Hang in there . Don't let it bother you, seriously, it's not worth the worry. I was really really depressed during my ucas application cycle, looking back now, i feel stupid. The world is your oyster, not getting into Imperial won't change this. I seriously do mean this.
Thanks. What your saying is quite right. Its not really the end of the world if i dont get in.
Regarding the mechanical engineering I heard from the admissions tutor that they still haven't considered the European applications yet since the tutor has been in Singapore. I already have an offer from the civil engineering department but I've been asking for a transfer to H304 so that's the reason I've been nagging on them .. so there's no need to worry for any of the europeans who haven't got a reply from the mech eng department yet...

i think that the bioengineering department has the same tutor as the mechanical one so we're in the same boat.....

Consider it an international school, be pleased if you have a place, and move on!
If was not thinking so much of myself as I was of the Asian student. Consider yourself being an Asian student coming to Imperial, hopefully for the world class education but also for the new experiences a new country brings. Is it not defeating the objective about studying abroad to be surrounded by ones own kind? Some might find comfort in that and some might not, but my overall personal consensus is that studying abroad is a time for leaving the old behind and gaining new experiences. How exactly is an Asian person supposed to achieve that at Imperial (in the future albeit) if the majority of the people are Asian?
And further, more so than often on this particular forum people always seem to complain that the majority of Asians students keep to themselves and do not integrate with the rest of the student population. Naturally you have the keen ones who are very enthusiastic about joining in on student life. This is not my opinion this is the accumulated opinion of people on the TSR Imperial forum, surely by letting even more people in from a particular part of the world will not ease segregation - which clearly is annoying other students.
In conclusion; it seems a bit self defeating for the overall student experience to create an all-Asian university (by the looks of it) when university experience, particularly for internationals should be about gaining new experiences and meeting new kinds of people.

It depends why they wanted to study abroad. I know plenty of Asian students who do integrate with non-Asians, but it's not so easy to remember them -- they're just people in my group of friends, and I forget where they're from half the time.
I think many will choose Imperial because they know there's people from similar places to them. I think I'd feel very much alone if I was the only European at a Chinese university.

The majority aren't Asian. Even then, remember how big Asia is, or how big China is for that matter -- it's like saying if I went to university in Germany and only spoke to French, Dutch, Belgian, Swiss, Polish, Swedish, ... students that I'm not integrating enough!
And further, more so than often on this particular forum people always seem to complain that the majority of Asians students keep to themselves and do not integrate with the rest of the student population.
I don't know why they care. The majority of 'sporty' (for the sake of argument) fans keep to themselves, so do the people that like rap music/clubs or whatever, I speak to them as much as I speak to any Asian group (which has an Asians-who-play-games, or Asians-who-go-clubbing, just like other groups).

So we should also stop letting in Europeans (or just the Britons?) who sit in their rooms and play LAN games, since they're not integrating. You're taking Asian students and making them an easy target for being antisocial.

Imperial will not be a small bubble world. It is in central London, one of the most diverse places anywhere. They will not be in the university 24/7 but gaining a huge insight into so many different cultures mixing together in London. New experiances is different for everyone. It might not be every asian persons wish surrounded by ones own kind, but it might be for some. Nevertheless anybody will gain loads of experiance when going to whatever university abroad.

I do understand what your getting at here, but a large majority of the university is not asian at all. Imperial just has a higher proportion of asians compared to to other universities. Although it is true to some extent that a majority of them stick together, not all of them do. Its just a matter of them being comfortable with people of like ethicnity not that they want to be segregated. Although i have seen it at first hand at Imperial and it does look quite annoying, its just like that at every unviersity.
One of the problems I've noticed with international students is that their english hasnt improved much in the time they've been here, mainly due to them not having to speak english very much. There is a very big difference between reading english and speaking. Having said that, I've noticed a lot of them read textbooks in their own language
When I came to the UK, I didnt know of anyone that spoke my language, so naturally I was forced to learn English. Went from very basic english to fluent in about 6 months at school. I'd suggest to internationals to do the same, if they want to be any good at the language.

You repeated my argument and totally missed the point of it. I am saying that there is not much point in going to Imperial (in the future, right now it is diverse and good, but by the looks of it they are trying to attract even more Asians) as an Asian because you wont gain the full experience of going to a university abroad because there is no diversity, no different from leaving Asia. And it so happens that the university will be central point of ones life especially as an international.

Yes I know that but we (I say 'we' for simplicity, but I wont get there until autumn) are very diverse as it is right now and that is good. I am just very much against try to attract even more of the same people there because that will destroy that fine line of diversity.
