Muslim is a religion and culture can apply to ANY group of people. I'm getting the impression here that you're not too bright.

You've been brainwashed by a religion and you're telling me to "think on my own two feet" (which isn't the phrase btw, the phrase is "STAND on your own two feet" and it means something completely different)? That's actually hilarious. I can think for myself, hun, that's why I rejected the religion and gained the freedom to think for myself.
Muslim is an identity which is what your failing to grasp the concept of. Culture cannot apply to Muslims.

No I am not bright your the cleverest on this forum as being portrayed already, and you have been refuted by not only me so they are not bright too?(!).

Thank you for the correction. The point still stands though. It means the same thing, its metaphorical.

Culture can apply to ANY group of people. "Muslim" is a word used to describe people who follow a religion. It is not just "an identity" and ANY group of people can have a culture.

Seriously, I can't deal with this level of stupidity.

Muslim and culture amalgamated together does not integrate. No matter how hard you try you will fall rock bottom.

Resorting to insults would portray your behavior in a negative manner.

    Peace.

Just because you strung some long words together, doesn't mean your sentence makes any sort of sense. ANY group of people can have a culture. I don't know how much more simply I can put it.

I don't normally resort to insults but this is some next level stupidity.

Lol as if a religious person knows what peace is

Eh same difference, if you back through my posts on this thread you can see my explanation of my choice of words. But as I've kept saying, my meaning is clear, people are just using the way I've phrased it to avoid confronting my point.

Neither can I. Its totally portraying that you really do not know about Muslims. They can have culture but not the two amalgamated together.

Being judgmental? Of course I know what peace is Alhamdulliah, I live it daily as do many million of Muslims around the world. .

I give up. My cat understands things better than you and he's been dead for five years.

How about instead of arguing about stupid definitions you actually argue against my point of Islam being backwards? Or can't you do that because deep down you know it's true and don't want to admit it to yourself?

Nope, religious people don't "live peace". It's just not possible.

    Definitions cannot be stupid.

As for your query, Islam is not backwards. Please do provide an example or an assumption that it is because you cannot be general when stating such. Thank you.

You clearly have not seen around, theres always a reprobate in every religion.

Please excuse my ignorance I was just wondering - marriage seems to be very important for Muslim people, what is the stance on a woman (or man) who did not want to get married, wanted a live with a partner unmarried, or someone who was gay?

    1) Muslims have to marry within their own religion

    2) It's frowned upon in Islam to marry someone of a different race

    3) Women have to cover themselves but men can wear pretty much whatever they like

    4) Women are expected to be homemakers

    5) Women are owned by their father, until they marry then they are owned by their husband

    6) In Islam a man is permitted to beat his wife

    7) Sex before marriage is haram

    8) Honour killings

    9) The concept of halal meat

    10) Circumcision

Those are literally just a few examples off the top of my head, there's plenty more but I don't have all day to list them.

Nope. Religion goes against the very concept of peace I'm afraid.

Yes! I don't understand why it is so accepted that like you'll just marry someone you barely know and then divorce is frowned upon so if it turns out you're not a good match then you're stuck. It's horrific.
My parents are a good example of that :// *shotsfired*

If they don't wanna marry, then most people'd think that's just sad and they'll live a lonely life.
If they wanted to live with a partner unmarried, well that's not really heard of but I guess it's ok? Parents might want them to marry tho lol.
And if they were gay, haha... You might as well say bye to them, they're gonna be DISOWNED! (Our religion is highly homophobic, you see :/)

Indeed marriage is very big thing in Islamic tradition

It is strongly encouraged for a person who is able to marry, to marry. If they choose to remain single, that is up to them.

There is no such thing as living with an unmarried partner. In Islam, you either marry the person or you dont have a partner

There is no such thing as gay marriage.

why are you implying that Muslims are uncultured ?

more seriously : everyone has a culture, including Muslims. Is there an Islamic "culture" ?

of course there is. Food and dress prescriptions, marriage taboos, inheritance rules, etc etc are all part of what is considered a "culture" and apply to most (if not all) Muslims. Next to that, there are of course more specific ethnic or national cultures, which mix with Islam to produce hybrids that you can call "Turkish Islam" "UK Islam" or "Western European Islam", "US Islam" etc etc

simply repeating endlessly "there is one Islam only" makes little sense : just like Christianity, Buddhism, or even Socialism, Liberalism etc there are next to infinite brands of these ideologies/religions, which have common elements, but also important differences

You know what i dont understand? If you are so free of this religion you deem horrible, why are you here? Why are you concerning yourself?
Oh and we can go through your arguments point by point if you so please. Starting with one, its a cultural way of thinking and has nothing to do with Islam as we are permitted to marry even Jews and Christians that then destroys point number two also

This site makes me wish I had studied sociology.

Not an expert or anything, but here's a few ideas.

Ideologies can totally be a part of culture, even though there are variations on an ideology there will be core tenants that would be shared by all subscribers to that ideology and so will be a major part of the overall culture of the followers of said ideology. For example communists/ marxists all believe that the means of production should be publicly owned, so they will have some sort of aversion to private enterprise regardless of nationality or branch of marxism.

However, culture is an umbrella term and so the general traits ascribed to that culture won't be true of all the subcultures, communities and individuals within it. So it's more useful to specify the subcultures or communities (random example would be Malaysian muslim culture) rather than ascribe a trait to the overarching culture as a whole.
    Spoiler:
    Show

I spent way too long re-rewriting this bloody thing. If there are any grammatical mistakes, sorry, but I've just stopped caring.
