I'm in year 10 at school and most my teachers act as if GCSE's are not important. They wont let us do GCSE Maths or English and they have changed the exams we do to something lower. Yet we still GCSE Combined Science. Every thing chances all the time with science and its not like they can exactly change much in Maths or English. They basically think we are dumb. My maths teacher is more than happy to teach GCSE content but she cant because the head of maths wont let her. Instead we are only doing Acentis level 1 and 2 for maths and English we are doing functional skills level 1 and 2. By the end of year 11 I'll probably only have my science GCSE and possibly GCSE in art. I am doing other qualifications but most of them are barley worth anything. Some of the qualifications we are working towards are BTECH and ones that don't included an exam just someone to access the work at the end of year 11.

How important are GCSE's? Will having equivalent qualifications do?
How often are qualifications needed once you leave school?
What will I need to do to up my grades even know school is limiting the students with what they can achieve?

Maths and English GCSEs are quite important. I would suggest that you move school if you're un happy. It's mostly dependent on what you want to do for A levels.

    Honestly, complain.

You don't need a bag load of A* for most courses, but some don't accept equivalents.

Your local authority can take care of this, unless it's an academy
