Do people bring laptops to engineering lectures? or mostly write on handouts/own notes?

I don't study engineering, but in my lectures (English) it's about a 75:25 split between laptop users and those who hand-write notes.

I don't think it really matters what you study, there will always be a few people with laptops while the majority take hand written notes (or more likely don't bother taking notes at all).

If all you are doing is writing words then laptops can suffice, although they're still not ideal. But as soon as you need to draw diagrams, or make links between points or do anything besides just writing it becomes apparent that laptops are not really that good for note taking.

Yes, I'm an engineering student and people do bring in their laptops to use for notes, so it's not unusual - I guess it depends very much on what works for you in terms of learning and revision ☺️

Some people did take laptops into lectures on my course ... it's probably easier though to take down notes on paper, especially if you're scribbling down equations and diagrams.
