    Hi all!

International student from Singapore here. I recently received my A level results and got ABBB (BioChemMathEcons all H2), and was just wondering what good UK universities are open to me, particularly those in London, as well as the notable courses offered.

My dream school was UCL, and my target course being Social Science. The requirement is however AAB so do I still stand a chance of being accepted?

I have yet to determine my passion but current courses i'm looking at are Econs, Law, Business.

I have a rather strong portfolio with many Extracurriculars and Cocurriculars (but I heard that UK universities don't really care?), which I hope can boost my admission chances.

Any advice would be immensely appreciated, thank you!

UCL requires A*AA for Law and so so many of the top universities in London like LSE, King’s College and QMUL. They can give out contextual offers but because your grades are quite significantly below what they’d normally require I’m not sure if they’d be willing to go for that.

Hey! Congrats on your A Levels results. Out of curiosity, why those particular subjects if you think your interests lie in social sciences?

Unfortunately, as the poster above has noted, you're incredibly unlikely to get offers for Law from the most competitive universities, especially in London. I think, broadly speaking, the same goes for Economics in terms of prestigious institutions. You have good grades, but these are just highly oversubscribed courses, so the best universities really can afford to pick and choose from the best. You might have a shot at Royal Holloway, University of London, which only asks for AAB for Law, or places like Birkbeck or Middlesex, which are also in London and have lower grade requirements.

If you're happy to go elsewhere outside the capital, you may get in somewhere more highly regarded; in this respect, the fact that you are an international student and therefore will pay higher fees will work in your favour, as will the fact that your grades, while lower than required, are all in traditional, respected, 'difficult' subjects. You could look at Russell Group universities such as Manchester, which has an excellent international standing.
