So we have been set an essay on Othello with the question
‘The space located between the public and private has enabled the relationship between Othello and Desdemona to flourish’
In the light of this view, discuss how Shakespeare presents the relationship between Othello and Desdemona in this extract and elsewhere in Act 1.

I am really struggling with what is meant by 'the space located between public and private' and its due tomorrow.

    and its due tomorrow.... Hilaire.

I think it means what it says.

Public= all scenes where they are outside or in the company of other people. they adopt a certain role and behaviour.

Private= all scenes where they are in private just the two of them. They are more intimate and behave differently with each other.

How does shakey use the two to counterbalance and complement each other? How does he show us the relationship is able to flourish?

Think about what each one and then in combination tells us about the relationship? Think about how showing both sides it reveals different aspects and how that lets the relationship grow in the audiences eyes, thereby making it all more tragic.
