I was home educated until year 10 so don’t have experience personally, but know people who’ve done GCSEs at home. For the actual exam you normally have to go to a private exam centre as an external candidate so the exam can be carried out under exam conditions. I’m not sure which board is best, but iGCSEs are meant to be good as the grade is based on exam performance only (eliminates coursework element). I wouldn’t think subject choice at GCSE would matter too much (as long as you take English, maths and science!), but I guess you could look at entry requirements for uni courses/ A levels you want to take.
There are normally home ed groups online, such as Facebook groups where you can speak to people in your local area so I’m sure they could offer you more advice
