Is anyone else applying for a FYAH at Bristol Uni? Ive been given this essay question ("what does it mean to be human?") and 4 sources to write a 1000-1500 word response to. Its due 12/03/18 and I have no idea where to start. It seems rather philosophical? Does anyone know how i can approach this? Also, would it be an indication of the course being philosophy heavy? I want to study a classics degree.

I am a year 11 still at GCSE level, but my ideas are: to be human is to have a sense of identity eg. who you are, where you ancestory comes from, who you identify as. Also to be a human means that you have human rights, morals and authority. Hope these ideas help Good luck!!! X

In my opinion to be human is to feel, experience and understand through evolution and modernisation. Humans are mammals who can feel emotions , it’s what we use to express ourselves in art, music, literature, drama. Humans have also adapted to new knowledge . If you think about back in the 14th century, the Renaissance was the era of human individualism and humanism. Being human is being complex , adapting and understanding who we are as individuals while backing it up with science and religion to truly understand our morals , beliefs , faiths and identity.
