What to do about this guy? watch

I’ve realised that I quite like this guy.
He’s the son of a family friend and a few years older than me, and we’ve not spoken a lot in the past few years but he’s lovely.
I want to get to know him more but can’t think of a way to start a conversation without it being awkward.
We live a 5 minute walk away from one another but rarely bump into each other due to uni and work etc. What should I do to get conversation flowing and get us going out?

Open out with small talk. Are you connected on any social media? Ask him how he's been, how's work/uni, how his weekend was, etc... Give it time before going out, you'd want to find things that you have in common first but that will come naturally in conversation.
