I've finally found one interesting one, where it's a group of maybe 25 students in a class for 2 hours, discussing teaching maths, doing various practical activities and group discussion and the lecturer (graduate of Cambridge and OBE) has lots of funny stories to tell.

Something where you have to learn too much sucks. This one gets it right but is unusual from normal maths courses.

One given by Professor Sir John Curtice. Sir John is full of energy and makes statistics fun.

This wasn't at university, it was at the a convention type thing for vets and students.

Ben Goldacre (author of 'Bad Science' and 'Bad Pharma' amongst others) did a really good talk about how statistics can be manipulated in order to push the agenda of whoever has the data. I know on paper it sounds like a bit of a dry topic but he was really charismatic and entertaining! People kept jumping out of their seats when he started a new sentence just 'cos he was so loud. Obviously this is a really interesting an important topic for anyone working within medicine/pharmacology (and it was really disheartening to see what some people have gotten away with at the detriment of patients) so it was well worth going.

Ben Goldacre is a (human) doctor rather than a vet so his talk was in no way vet-specific and I'd really recommend attending anything by him if you ever get the chance. He does a lot in pop science and such.

It seems that story telling works wonders!
