How much are you guys paying for car insurance.
    My girlfriend pays 1500
but all my quotes come out at 3000 +

is that standard for a 17/18 year old?

Car insurance prices are based on theoretical risk, and as a 17/18 year old you don't have much experience so will have higher prices. Different cars will have different sets of data that insurers base the risk on, so try loads of policies on loads of cars - don't just automatically assume that a 1.2 Fiesta is going to be best because it might not be. More people your age will have that car, so there will be more accidents.

Try seeing what difference keeping it in the garage/drive/street makes. This again can be surprising.

Sometimes fully comprehensive can be cheaper than 3rd party only.

Try to work out how many miles you'll be doing rather than vastly over-estimating. If you know you'll mostly do 5 miles each way to college, you'll need to suddenly do a lot of extra journeys to need 10,000 miles per year.
