They vary for each university. Some are written papers, some are coursework, some are practical. The list goes on and on.

.What do you do in Year1,Year 2,Year 3? Which year is when the most important exams take place ? Is it over a collectivs 3 years where you achieve your degree mark or is it over a one off exam and coursework

Completely depends on your university, all of this information should be on the course pages so you just need to do some research. Generally speaking, assessment will be through a combination of exams and coursework, and later years are worth more than earlier years. Most universities will have exams at the end of each semester/trimester, but some only have them at the end of the year. It is quite common (but not universal) for the first year not to count.
