I really doubt this will happen, as it will be so damaging to unis it would force UUK back to the negotiating table. I also don't think lecturers would do this- it's too extreme for them, and they do care about their students.

More likely is a marking strike, so you would sit your exams but the grades would be delayed. This could affect graduation, but probably you'd be allowed to progress to the next year, and have to take resits a year late or something like that.

Either way, the university will come up with a way around it.

Who needs to get it together like adults? The UCU? If the changes go ahead, the average academic will be £10,000 worse off each year in retirement. That's a huge amount, and there are lots of queries about how the valuations have been run. If UUK were willing to restart negotiations, the strikes would stop.

Chances are, this will be resolved one way or another by the summer- but if it's not, then I suggest you contact the institution where you have a place, and explain the situation- they may extend the deadline for you to submit your results.

You could also write to your vice chancellor, encouraging them to come back to the table with UCU to avoid further disruption.

At the end of the day its not my problem, if they want to strike to an extent thats fine, what i care about is what i pay for and recieving that, dont punish me for their shortcomings.. I can survive and realize online learning does the majority of the work, but i do not have sympathy for losing extra time on my degree or potentially having delays in a year abroad i had to work hard academically to attain!

tbf if this drags on, and your high ranking masters professors who are all likely union, wouldnt they most likely strike in september the hardest with no lectures just to prove a point? lol not the soundest of logic you are displaying....

Yes, the sound logic here is supposing they'd strike when they have no teaching responsibilities to prove a point. All this striking before exams and ruining undergrads' degrees was just a prelude to delay master's students getting their results by December. Now we'll have to wait till January, and the UUK will surely cave in then!

Also my professors are international practitioners with academic posts in several countries. I don't think a single one is striking, least of all my disso supervisor.

I hope it doesnt 🙏🙏 but im just saying dont think postgrads will come out unscathed just because your level 7, that paper has through proper channels likely marked by 4-5 academics and passing an academic board, that has little to do with your supervisor. You know how b-cratic unis are lol.

When the dean of my business school tells us at the course rep meeting that its unprecedented and he doesnt honestly have a plan in hell in place, and that even he is himself in the union....... thats to me cause for concern.

I do know. It's set a mark by the supervisor, and effectively countersigned by some other mush who specialises in a different area and therefore understands little of the actual paper. Similar thing happened for my undergrad disso too; to be honest, my supervisor didn't really understand my paper either!

I am not disagreeing that it's a pickle for undergrads.
