    Hi,

I'm currently studying French, Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Southampton.

Personally (and biasly), I would choose Portuguese purely because of the similarities with Spanish, meaning that it is less work in the long haul. However, on saying this, the Portuguese accent is very different to Spanish, and sometimes I see myself slipping into Spanish when I'm speaking Portuguese (on the little words). But this will iron out over time as I'm a beginner I suppose.

Also, it's worth to bare in mind which culture you prefer/if you would want to spend your year abroad in a Portuguese or Italian country.

Feel free to message me if you have other questions! (But I advise Portuguese strongly!)
