Can anyone give me their opinion on whether it’s better to stay in student halls for the first year or rent independently? Halls is expensive but maybe worth it for the amount of people you meet?

    Depends on the uni.

    Advantages Halls

Meet lot of first years and make friends, but can be hit and miss.
    Usually well located.
Uni usually a more lenient landlord
    Lots are bills inclusive.

    Private rent.
Often a bit cheaper, but pay over 52 weeks.
    Get what you pay for.
    Less restrictions than uni.
    More independence.

Usual way is Halls for first year , make friends and find a place with them for second.
