Watch your setting out on the last line.

Parallel sides = (8 + 4) = 12

Area = (12 x 7) /2

You have got a string of equal signs between unequal things which examiners don't like

[I'd label the unshaded bits A and B]

Yes - good - do try and write more words in your solutions then if you make a mistake in your arithmetic you might get method marks.
