An interesting argument would be... London as a whole voting remain in the referendum, but Brexit happening.

True, but Manchester and Edinburgh are regionally quite important as well. But London is far more globally relevant.

22% of GDP is impressive but certainly not enough to substantiate the claim.

Only country I can think of where you could say that the capital city is the only important city excluding city states and small island nations is Qatar.

Leeds and Manchester are also host to millionaires and skyscrapers although not on London's level. Plenty of places other than London have been continuously inhabited for 2,000 years in the UK. Urban areas in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and Glasgow all have over one million people living there.

You'd be foolish to argue against London being the city of foremost importance in the UK, but to argue insofar that it is the only noteworthy city is to disparage the cultural significance and economic impact of other regions that are essential to the UK's economy.

Going to the Lancashire coast is like travelling 20 years back in time.

If we removed everything but London, it would be 100% of GDP

London was not alone in this. Scotland voted to Remain for example.

Oxford and Cambridge would consider themselves important centres of learning, Manchester is where most of the good music of the last 30 years comes from.

Mind you, Hull is a City and so is Coventry.
