Dammit NFI, I can't find those roles on the web site. They must have filled the quota.

Pay scales are standardised and based on rank not not role. Works this way across all three services. Bare in mind however in the RAF you’ll be going to much more expensive hotels when on exercise, not that you’ll be paying it’s just that you may have to buy your own drink now and again so that’ll come out of your disposable income.

Thanks for the reply, I didn’t know that part about the hotels haha, is this why I’ve been told the RAF are stuck up compared to the other forces, if that means treated better and nicer hotels then I don’t really care hahaha, I ask about the wages as I am deciding between Avionics Technician or General Technician Electrical (Electrician) as I would like to know if anyone knows which role is more likely to receive promotions and also if the wages are different in any way, with Avionics being what seems to be a more specialised trade I assume it would be a category that sees more promotions than just a general sparky fitting lamps and generators etc any info on either?

As you've been told elsewhere, the pay will be basically the same. The advancement will be basically the same.

Pick the role you like the sound of and would prefer doing. Enjoyment is worth more than one or two extra pounds a month.

Yeah I think I’m going to stick with Avionics then, be more interesting in the long run I think

Just to clarify, you won’t really be in nicer hotels 😂 It’s just a bit of forces banter. We army folk have to do exercise out in the nasty wilds, a mate of mine went through his RAF training and his exercise was in a hangar! Lucky so and so lol. In all honesty I’m not au fait with the engineering side of life in either of the 3 services, I’m a medic. I do however have a friend who’s an engineer in the RAF so if you can bare with me I shall gather up what I can for you and see what he says!

Not strictly speaking. In the Army there are 4 bands/groups of pay depending on your trade.

So I’ve had a quick discussion with my friend this morning. He couldn’t recommend avionics enough he says you’ll get a much more in depth engineering knowledge, you’ll generally have higher job satisfaction and the progression is a bit better at the moment. He also says avionics will leave you with much more qualification wise for when you decide to leave!
