I studied chemical engineering at a red brick uni and i have been working for 3 years now for a large consultancy company as a graduate process engineer. I was asked by a new graduate how much i was on, i told them and they were surprised it was "this little".

They then told me about this article from the IChemE:

    http://jobs.thechemicalengineer.com/...engineer-jobs/

The number they are quoting are laughable, I even showed a few senior engineers whom had worked in oil and gas, nuclear, waste water and power.

We believe the people who answered the survey must have had something to boast and many might of kept quiet. I can tell you right now that after 10 years, if you can make it, £50k a year is a very good place to be.

Yes people do earn that much, but for every 100 engineers surveyed only 5 to 10 will be on them sums of money. As a graduate you will be lucky to get a job. And thanks to oil and gas price crash some engineers are no longer barging about how much they are paid.

Payscale and glassdoor, for example, have typical salaries for different roles or job titles.

But they will vary by location, etc.
