    Hi. I am the wife of a person with a refugee status. I am sponsored in his visa. Currently, I’ve been in the UK for 1 year only.

    Under the requirement for eligibility, you need to be in the country for 3 years minimum to be eligible for student finance.

    I don’t meet that requirement but I am the family of refugee. Am I able to get funding support so that I can start university?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Fathima,

    You will be able to apply as spouse of a refugee,

    In order to qualify as a refugee and receive student support you must meet one of the following criteria:

    • have refugee status their own right and have remained resident in the UK since the acquisition of refugee status or;
    • If claiming as a spouse of a refugee, must have been married before the application for asylum status was made.

    Thanks Rona
