Boyfriend didn't get me anything for my birthday watch

I know it sounds really petty but I'm really bummed. It's our first year together and I guess I expected more. His family has a tradition of waking the birthday person up at midnight by singing happy birthday and giving them a sweet treat which he did (a leftover slice of his own favorite pie that I made for our anniversary) which was kind of sweet but after that nothing. We just sat around all day. I'm really not a material person but he didn't even take me out for lunch or rub my back or anything. I honestly would have thrilled if he would have poured the milk in my morning cereal.

Normally I don't think it would have been such an issue but he's really been getting on my nerves lately. He makes almost twice as much money as me but I almost always end up paying for things because he blows every last penny on take out for himself and his roommate. In the year we've been dating he's payed for maybe 10 dates. I'm not saying he needs to pay for dates or anything but I'm a full time student and I work a horrible job for minimum wage and he's a manager at a popular restaurant and sometimes it feels like I'm being punished for being good with money. He also didn't do anything for our anniversary or valintines day. He also keeps telling me he's going to do stuff but it never ends up happening.

My ex was really abusive and he's the first guy I've dated since that debacle and I'm honestly not sure if he's worth my time or if I'm just basking in the joy of not being beaten. Am I being petty or is this valid?

It does seem a bit odd that he didn't get you a gift, so you're not being petty

Nah completely valid. Idk about the gift thing but you paying for most stuff isn’t right.
