How do I get my passport back?! watch

I have a boyfriend in Europe and I am at University in the UK. We met online and have been dating for around 2 years. He has visited me several times, and has met my family. They are not keen that we met online but seemed to like him in person.

I have booked tickets to visit him and his family this month. However, my parents don’t seem thrilled with the idea of me visiting and are being very overprotective. I had already raised the idea of me visiting him with my parents and was told the decision was up to me. However, since booking the tickets, I am not convinced my parents will give me my passport (I am 20, don’t live with my parents and paying for this trip myself)

How can I deal with this situation without resorting to calling the police or something else extreme to get my passport back? Thanks for any help

tl;dr - I have a boyfriend abroad that I am wanting to visit, parents holding my passport from me.

How long before you go? Ask them for it, if they say no, report it lost and order a new one to your own address.

If the trip is this month I don’t know if a new passport would come on time if it takes up to 6 weeks?

You can say you've lost your passport, a new one can ne issued at Passport Office in person as I did that in 2015 no issues occurred

Would I need a birth certificate?

Yes, you will need one. If you don't have one go to the office which releases your birth certificate.
