I'm due to enroll at KCL in the Autumn (I'm deferred entry from last year). I really want an en-suite room there, but I'm trying to figure out if that's financially feasible. In theory, my maintenance loan should be between £10,000 and £11,000. Have any current KCL students with this sort of budget managed to afford an en-suite room without descending into poverty???

an ensuite can cost anywhere between 200-300£, so for a 40 week let usually for halls, rent alone will cost around £10000.

KCL offer a scheme called KAAS for students who have a family income of less than £40k. If you're successful on enrolling on the scheme, then your rent caps at somewhere around £169 for a ensuite for most houses, but not all of them, which is really affordable.
