As it turns out, the only pictures I've got are me with my head firmly inside the bowl of a toilet.

Not gonna float well, if you excuse the pun.

Whaaaat?! How did I miss something like that. Stairs are for squares, I should know this already.

Hmm... short black hair, currently adorning a brown Element hoody and a dashing array of spots near my mouth. Medium to fatty build, complete with mahoosive eye bags from the mahoosive car journey.

I do not remember this. Who were you with and where were you sitting?

I feel that dale_cooper is lying :nothing:
I too, attended the open day today.
The cookie was a nice touch.
EDIT: Annnnnnd that can be put away now

Don't say I didn't warn you... I guess the rest is your imagination? Not many pictures of me about, only have had Facebook for about 3 days so nurr.

For the first bit, bagged front row seats just to the left of the podium, then for the second bit... about 3 or rows back, far right I think. I was with my ladyfriend, who was wearing a flowery-ish shirt over... a black top? May have been red.

Going to go with red. If it helps, I was playing with a pen most of the time.

I hate the very moment when you bite into a cookie and realise it's not soft. Makes me rage every time.

Alright there folks,

Jason here. Turns out my username on this is Jaybones not momquab haha. I'm a bit scared by people finding me on Last.fm now though and wanting to pick through my music collection!

How'd you all find the Open day anyway? Hope it was helpful! Free cookies = win.

Haha, oh you.

the open day was awesome  really reassuring

my mum was getting grumpy cos the first bit was all stuff we'd heard before, but then all the stuff with students was good!
nice to know that everyone's (fairly) normal!

I was the guy who ran out a tiny bit early with my motherrr haha
god she's embarassing..
I didn't eat mine due to having had about 30 other chocolate bars that day :nothing:

Oh man, that was golden! I think she's my new hero, even firing off questions while she's running out.

I almost couldn't muster it due to a particuarly enticing tub of flapjacks in an M&S service station, but by god, the raspberry goodness almost made me forget that it's going to go straight to my hips.

Ah it was wicked, thanks! Would definately see again. DVD of it coming out any time soon?

But really, the student bit was the most helpful part, good job. Felt more human and relevant than straight Q&A with a tutor. Give yourself a round of applause... hell, even help yourself to another cookie! Go on.

I think I did set you up a bit by shouting goodbye to you as you were sneaking out! That's what you get for not listening to me rattle on about crap all!

Saying that if you do think of other questions and stuff, like I said today, do feel free to ask them here. I'm surprised there wasn't that many questions about the year abroad this time around. At the other 2 open days that was the only thing everyone asked about. :s-smilie:

haha we were planning on leaving at 3.45 but you guys held our attention  was good! Only justtt got back in time for my music concert ha

the year abroad was such a deciding factor when i first applied cos it seemed really scary but now i'm not all that fussed by it

if i was going to ask anything it would be what the pros and cons / differences with going to Tokyo or outside of Tokyo are.. not sure which seems like a better option!

You have every right to be worried about it - moving to a different country for a year is no small thing! However I'm glad we managed to help you with some of your worries!

As for Tokyo/Non-tokyo, the differences are very similar to London/Outside of london for England. If you're going to be living in or around Tokyo then the price of things will natually be a little higher than it would be in other parts of Japan. Not only that, as it is a collection of huge cities you are generally forced to take the train everywhere you go and that can be very time consuming and again costs money. At the end of the day every situtation is different as some people lived on campus but their university is in tokyo so they didn't have to travel at all or some people lived half an hour/an hour outside of it and took a bit of time getting there and back each day.

If you're living in Tokyo you're going to have easy access to almost anything you could possibly imagine as, like london, they seem to have a shop for anything. All major gigs go on there too (went to see Daft punk with coursemates in Tokyo!) and conventions etc.

I lived in Kanazawa in Ishikawa prefecture
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=%E6%97%A5%E6%9C%AC%E7%9F%B3%E5%B7%9D%E7%9C%8C%E9%87%91%E6%B2%A2%E5%B8%82%E8%A7%92%E9%96%93%E7%94%BA+(%E9%87%91%E6%B2%A2%E5%A4%A7%E5%AD%A6%E3%80%80%E6%95%99%E8%82%B2%E5%AD%A6%E9%83%A8)&sll=36.551845,136.708374&sspn=0.02134,0.04549&ie=UTF8&ll=36.549362,136.722107&spn=0.68289,1.455688&z=10&iwloc=A

which is the complete opposite from Tokyo really. You can see photos of the university on google maps there and look at it with satellite view and you can see that there is nothing but mountains surrounding the university. It may not be for everything but the city centre was less than half an hour on the bus and I bought myself a granny bicycle whilst I was there (with a little basket above the front wheel) and that got me around the whole of the city in no time at all. The city centre itself is great as it had loads of karaoke, starbucks, doughnut shops etc and pretty much anything you needed - including its own foreigner bar! One major plus was how cheap everything seemed to be as well. Like I said in the meeting, I only cooked a meal once in Japan because eating out was so cheap.

I chose to go to Kanazawa because I didnt fancy the idea of the "tokyo life" as my year abroad and I thought it would be more beneficial for me to go to a place on my own, with fewer foreigners to give myself to properly throw myself into Japan. One thing though is that Kanazawa is the capital of Ishikawa prefecture and so it has good connections to the rest of Japan. The trains will take you directly to Kansai area (Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya etc) and getting to Tokyo is relatively painless too - I always go the night bus which was obscenely cheap but just damn right uncomfortable. So you are never *really* that far from the major cities or your coursemates.

Hmmmmm I could literally talk all day about Kanazawa and how great it is but i'll leave it there for now. Hope that answered your question!
