You guys are crrazy lol!
Where's the facebook group at?
Fran what month are you arriving in JP?

Yer, maniacs. Kids eh.
Pfft no Facebook group I predict. I'll just join the Endcliffe one, and Sheffield one.
I'm arriving in mid August and leaving in the first week of September. So 3 weeks: 15 August to 5 September. But could all change as not sure on the 5th September date. Need to change flights blablabla but will be leaving around mid August. I've forgotten, are you there now, or going there?

Heh.. well.. (Looks up to above posts).

Was wondering if any of you could give me some wise words of advice? I was tipped that this is the place to go.. basically, the story:

I heard that it would probably be a good idea to ask this thread rather than the Foreign Languages forum.

Sorry to make such a large post and intrude on your thread.

Hiya KursedEG,

Most universities are fairly lenient with their grades as long as the person shows real motivation in what they are doing. If - through your application - you can show that you have a real passion for studying Japanese and can justify that then grades become less of an issue. Of course that does not mean you should not try on your exams because the grades are there for a reason. It's an intensive course and you need to show them that you are up to the task of studying there.

In my case, I missed the entry requirements by a grade but after a quick call to the school they said that there was no need to worry as I was accepted nonetheless!

If I can give one piece of advice at college - it would be to not let your predicted grades rule you. You say you're predicted a BBD but that doesn't mean that you will get a BBD. If you are genuine in wanting to come to SEAS then prove the college wrong and get those higher grades. It's not an easy task but it'll all be worth it if you get on the course you want!

Good luck with the exams and getting into Sheffield!

KursedEG, hello

I going to reinforce what Jaybones mentioned. Flip the birdy at a BBD, study solid and I'm sure you will churn out some A's and B's.

My short story is, I studied a National Diploma Music Technology as my Major and Japanese as a minor @ College. For my major, I was predicted a triple Pass in my first year. I decided that I didn't want none of that, so logged off facebook, turned off the XBOX, studied hard and got a Distinction-Distinction-Merit (equivalent to AAB/320+ UCAS points), totally proved them wrong. Unfortunately I applied for BA Japanese way past the deadline so I got rejected. :eek3:
So I contacted SEAS and told them my sob story and how I was coming back to take over SEAS and a "please accept me next year, please please please" lol. I think it was Rick Siddle who I later met up with that said, "aww what a sad story, but how about chill out for a year, go to Japan and relax, come back and sumbit your UCAS application nice and early, making sure you nail your personal statement boy!"...so I did:biggrin:

My personal advice, if you really want it, never give up! Even if it means doing something else for one year to get there. Ace the personal statement and submit it nice and early. If you have not already, attend an open day. Tons of information and motivation after you leave an open day..or in my case two open days.
You can do it! :burnout:

I'll be there from 21st July until September the 4th. I'll be stay be staying in Sakai City again but will most likely use and abuse a J.R Rail pass as usual. I think Fran is coming out mid august for a few weeks too. What you thinking, you wanna meet up out there?
