I have compulsory year 12 work shadowing this summer, which I'd like to complete in a hospital.
However there are barley any in my area which offer placements, and for most of the hospitals in London they only accept/ highly prioritise people who live in particular boroughs of London.
Anyone have any tricks of getting work shadowing in hospitals, especially when you don't have any contacts?
Also, I've emailed quite a few places enquiring about opportunities, but so far everyone has either not replied or said they are full.

I have to have sorted everything out by the 12th of March!

Use other people’s contacts! I want to do medicine so I have completed weeks work experience in a hospital and two days in a GP practice. I got the hospital work experience through my friend’s dad, who works in the NHS. Basically, she had done two placements already and I couldn’t get any because I was still 15, so I just made him feel rly guilty until he organised one for me too. 😊
I got the GP work experience by emailing the practice manager and saying that I went to school with the son of a GP that worked there. It was this boy in my year that I hardly ever talk to, but when I found out his dad was a GP I took advantage. The only way the rly get anywhere is by knowing people - or knowing people who know people.
Another option is to send letters to consultants directly, or their secretaries. Or maybe get volunteering there so you can badger doctors!Last edited by K8e.H; 05-03-2018 at 17:37. Reason: TDA Post Edit
