Start by connecting the centre of the circle to the touching point of the circle and the hypotenuse.

Try rotating the triangle on its side and creating the mirror image of what you have like shown in the diagram. Consider the formula attached which is equal to the radius.

What is that formula? I’ve never seen that before?

It can be derived from the method I was trying to hint (mathematically similar triangles after connecting the centre to the point of contact), except that the lengths are 'a' and 'b' instead of '3' and '4' respectively.
I'd imagine that this being a GCSE question, wouldn't require knowledge of this random formula and would need the full working out from scratch.

start by labelling the red- x.
Draw a triangle from the centre to the tangent
    Label the radius- r
    [spolier]
    circle theorem: 90 degrees

create 2 equations and solve to find x

    Show

    similar triangles

It definitely does not need to be learnt for GCSE but if you're interested you could read this: https://www.algebra.com/algebra/home...circles.lesson

With Problem 3 being the one in question here.
